Laser tattoo removal uses Q-switched laser pulses that shatter tattoo ink into tiny particles that the body’s lymphatic system clears, so the tattoo fades over several sessions.
Tattoo ink sits as particles in the dermis that are too large for the body to remove. Q-switched laser pulses shatter these particles into fragments small enough for the lymphatic system to clear over the following weeks.
Black and dark blue respond best to 1064 nm; red and orange inks are treated with 532 nm. Several sessions spaced 6–8 weeks apart progressively fade the design.
Most fade significantly. Some colours like green and light blue are more stubborn.
The risk is low with correct technique and aftercare.
Each session breaks some ink; the body needs weeks to clear it before the next.
